I was hit in a rental car in Utah and the local police were pretty much the same.

Finally the state police showed up. Not only did they understand the concept of a rental car, once they ran the other woman’s plates they got reaaalllyyyy nice to me. Her car might’ve been impounded after I left.

The cop has very narrow expectations of what constitutes proper legal documentation to drive a car in the United States. His mind wa s set before he got out of the patrol car. “I am dealing with a criminal.” Nothing the driver said was going to change his mind or interrupt his authoritah.

why are they so often unnecessarily incredulous?
i got pulled over once and i told the officer i know his speed was wrong because i had cruise set and it was flat and level. i was on a suburban street with a 45 mph limit and he REFUSED to accept the idea i would use my cruise control anywhere but the highway. to him it wasn't even a possibility. i know it's not common but it's not that weird. btw this is still my sop... not sure if it's just me or anyone else here. makes it easy to not speed
